A Learning Process Mechanism in CSCL
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper articulates a learning process mechanism in CSCL. For exploration of the learning process, a CSCL program was developed and implemented at a college level course. Fifty-six juniors at a cyber university were required to take the program as a course for eight weeks. Throughout the course, quantitative and qualitative data such as students’ perceived learning process mechanism from questionnaires, online messages, interview data, and participatory observation journal were collected and analyzed. As a result, an observable action model and a conceptual model of a learning process mechanism were derived, which students and experts verified. Cognitive achievement factors and satisfaction factors were also considered in the learning process mechanism model. Meaning and implication of each stage in the model were discussed.

CSCL for schools that learn
Learning communities and organizations are being recognized both as a mechanism for bringing learning about and as an explanation of what learning takes place. Systems that support learning in context and collaborative learning are increasingly being used to support performance and learning for school reform and business productivity. Similarly, many of the performance and learning outcomes tha...
متن کاملOn Incorporating Learning Theories to Simulate a Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning Environment
The success of a computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) environment in improving student knowledge depends on factors like student attributes (e.g., ability and motivation) and elements of the CSCL environment (e.g., group size and group formation). Better understanding of the individual and combined effects of these factors on the learning outcome of students would help: (1) research...
متن کاملSocio-Cognitive Scaffolding with Computer-Supported Collaboration Scripts: a Meta-Analysis
Scripts for computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) offer socio-cognitive scaffolding for learners to engage in collaborative activities that are considered beneficial for learning. Yet, CSCL scripts are often criticized for hampering naturally emerging collaboration. Research on the effectiveness of CSCL scripts has shown divergent results. This article reports a meta-analysis about t...
متن کاملExplicit references in chat-based CSCL: do they facilitate global text processing? evidence from eye movement analyses
Chat-based Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) often suffers from limitations due to the communication medium. A frequently reported consequence is the lack of discourse coherence and by this a lack of cognitive coherence in the learning process. To overcome these deficiencies, the implementation of explicit references with chat messages caused higher learning results. We analysed ...
متن کاملSupporting collaborative learning during information searching
We consider the role of collaborative learning during information searching. We report on observations of situated collaboration in a physical library, which informed the development of our system, Ariadne. This was intended both to investigate and support the learning of search skills. An iterative development and testing methodology was applied. The system has a mechanism for recording an int...
